Hendrik Mkhitaryan, Inter Milan's leading scorer, has been sidelined for several weeks due to a knee injury.
The 28-year-old forward was named in Italy's squad for the upcoming World Cup, but he will not be able to play in his country's opening match against South Africa on June 15th.
Mkhitaryan's injury is expected to sideline him for at least another two months. The Italian club had been hoping that he would be back by the end of the season, but now it looks like he won't be able to do so.
"I'm disappointed that I can't be with my teammates and friends during this time," said Mkhitaryan. "I want to thank all those who have supported me since I've started playing here. It's been a tough year, but we're working hard every day."
Inter Milan president Gabriele Totti expressed his disappointment in the news, saying: "We hope Hendrik can come back soon, but as long as he can't, we need to find someone else to step into his shoes."
The situation remains uncertain, but Inter Milan is confident that they will be able to replace Mkhitaryan if he can't return to training or play in the team's games.
In the meantime, the club will look to bring in new talent to fill the void left by Mkhitaryan's absence.
